I am glad to see your geneaological work, Ermengarde was my ancestor, along with Charlemagne and his son Louis The Fair. Our ancestry has been researched back to the fifth century and includes Charles Martel etc.
Decades ago, these very same names were on the list of ancestors my cousin pulled together the old fashioned way, before anybody had computers etc. We have charts that could cover every wall in the house!!
Thanks so much for sharing this!

I found a 1850 Census that shows Mary Hogue (Hoge) living with Jas (James) Hogue (Hoge) and his wife, Philo. James was a so of Mary Mcgeath Hoge, who was married to William Hoge b. 1776. According to the census age given, Mary's approx. birth year would be 1885. This is the only "proof" I have been able to find to suggest Mary's age.
Elizabeth Jesse:
Correction: Her birth year would have been 1785.

Thanks for the info.
I started a summary of the changes I've made over the past 2 years which you can find at http://www.palmspringsbum.org/tree/changes_2011.html I think you will find it interesting.
The biggest part of the work I've done is to add the descendants of William Gregg the Quaker of New Castle.
William Gregg's son George married George Hogg's daugher Sara. George Hogg was William Hoge's brother.
The Gregg descendants intermarried with the descendants of both Hoge brothers, as well as the Janneys, Nichols, and Browns such that they're pretty much all cousins, or would be if anyone can ever compile a complete genealogy of these families.
From the real & personal estate some of these families declared on the census, it becomes clear this Quaker clan had considerable economic and, therefore, political clout.
By the way, I see I have only one source for the spelling 'McGeath' and several, including Lucina Hoge's Descendants of Solomon Hoge, that spell it 'McGath', so I've changed the preferred surname to 'McGath' in my data.
|
Craig:
I just ran across an excellent example of how intertwined these families are. Look at the relationships between Henry Thornton Janney and his wife Cosmelia Janney Hoge: www.palmspringsbum.org/genealogy/getperson.php?personID=I97923&tree=Legends

I believe that William Hoge and Barbara Hume are my 8th great grandparents. Does anyone have more info. on William Hoge's (son of Solomon Hoge and Mary Nichols)second wife, Mary Mcgeath? I am trying to learn what year she was born, as she gave birth to my 4th great grandfather, Kenworthy Hoge, in 1829.

I just stumbled onto your website while researching my Hoge/Howe ancestors. William Hoge and Barbara Hume are my 8th great grandparents.
For the last few years I have been entering/scanning my mother's genealogy info into Family Tree Maker. I can't imagine how much time has gone into your website. Looking forward to checking it all out.

"Me > Howard Hogue(my father) > Walter Hogue > Charles Hogue > William Wallace Hogue > Elizabeth Archer > Jane Kilgore > Jesse Kilgore > James Kilgore > John Kilgore > James Kilgore > James Kilgour > Lord James Douglas Kilgour > Mary Fleming > John Fleming > Lady Janet Baroness Fleming Stewart > James lV, King of Scotland > James III, King of Scotland > James II, King of Scotland > James l, Blackknight > Robert lll, King of Scotland > Robert ll, King of Scotland > Marjory Princess of Scotland, Ribert l Bruce > Robert l (Bruce), King of Scotland, Robert de Bruce."
from my cousin Emily Cahal
reply appreciated ... i would like to help her in her search
Craig:
Sharon, I couldn't find a Walter Hogue or Hoge in my data, or a William Wallace, or an Elizabeth Archer. Nor could I find your Hogue tree on Dwight Hogg's 'Hoge DNA" website, which is the best collection of Hoge family trees I've seen: http://hdhdata.org/hoggdna/families.html
You should look over his site and send him an email. I'm sure he'll be happy to have discovered another Hoge line, or perhaps he can connect it to one he already has.
|
Craig:
Actually, I do have one Elizabeth Archer, but she died in 1773, was the first wife of James Powell Cocke, and her mother was Elizabeth Royall - which you probably already discovered.
|
Craig:
I sent Dwight Hogg an email about this yesterday and received a reply this morning, as follows:
-----
there is a tree on ancestry.com that has for the father of William Wallace Hogue, William Hogue, born 23-Nov-1776, Virginia...
http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/4835921/person/-1537418570
with the following story...
Found the name William Hogue in Lawrence County history, as coming to Fort LaMotte(Russellville, NE corner of Lawrence County Illinois) in 1810. Brother David Hogue is found on the County Court marriage record of 1808, to have married Sarah Welton 1 Jul 1808 in Knox County Indiana(Vincennes). They had a daughter, Lucinda born 4 Oct 1812 in Vincennes. They moved to Clark County Illinois around 1814/16 with his brother William. I have found "Billy" Hogue listed as a "Fiddler" at Ft. Harrison? Fort Harrison was an ongoing Fort from Oct 28, 1811 to 1818 and then used by the Indian agent until 1822. Found he(William) had a "Stray Mark" registered livestock mark in Vigo County Indiana in 1819, this was found in Bradbury's History of Vigo County. The supporting document for this William being a "Junior" was found on a Clark County Illinois land transfer deed dated, 18 Sept 1827 to a Darius Phillips for 39 acres in Clark County that had been inherited by William Jr's wife Elizabeth Archer Hogue from her father the then deceased Zachariah Archer.
...
William Hogue(1776) –> William Hogue(1726-1804)+Esther Ewing –> William Hoge Jr. (1701-1789)+Ann Hyle –> William+Barbara
|
Craig:
The day after Dwight Hogg sent the above message, he sent this:
-----
unless your data is wrong, these people are not descendants of William Hoge and Esther Ewing as claimed by one source. I do not believe your data is wrong.
there is another tree that claims they descend from Randolph Hogue of Rockingham County, Virginia. I don’t believe that either.
the 1850, Johnson County, Indiana census record is not them.
I cannot place them as part of any other family that I know of, so I am posting them as a new line
http://hdhdata.org/roots/h2790.html
This is a clear case where DNA would be useful.

Tremendous undertaking and beautifully done; I lost all to Katrina and am rebuilding. Looking for link between Garners in Florida and Garners in TX. I know it's there because when we were stationed at Garner Field in Uvalde, TX, Tully Garner, John Nance's son, helped us during WWII. John Nance was Grandmother Curry's cousin. She was Comella Felistis Garner, sometimes called Mellie. She's buried in Ortona Cemetery in Florida. Any help appreciated. Best, Cousin P.

Great site, very interesting.

I am a great grandaughter of Sarah Jane Guest and John Nance Garner I, I think? My grandmother was Melvina Guest daughter of Elisha Guest and Serilda Brown (It appears that she was the youngest of 3 children, maybe). My father was Ray McClellan, son of Melvina Guest and Alexander E. McClellan.

I am a descendant of Delilah Gordon (m. Adam Shriver, Sr.), dau of James Adam Gordon and Cassandra Holland. This lineage supposedly traces back to several kings and even to Cleopatra? Not sure I believe that, but I am beginning to investigate this. In the meantime, I have more information on Delilah Gordon that you seem to. Do you want to share info?
