The wonderful sugar tree orchard in foreground was a probable result of 'an improvement,' i.e., crop, made by William Ingles ca. 1750-1755. History has shown that when the virgin trees were removed, the natural regrowth was sugar maple. The twenty years or so of Indian wars and Revolution would allow a good start.
