Hello,
It sounds like your Canada ancestors are more illustrious than the Allred side.
Your ggrandfather, Charlie Patterson Allred, did appear to have either inherited or somehow accumulated some wealth, because he purchased 300+ acres at the old home place. So far I haven't been able to find where that wealth came from. I wish I had ask a lot more questions when daddy was here.
Your gggrandfather was Lewis Patterson Allred, and your ggggrandfather was John James Allred. After John James, I haven't been able to make the connection for the next generation, have you? According to the Allred genealogy site, the Allred's were influential in earlier times, especially centuries ago in England.
I have always been told there was a Native American grandmother,( in both the Hogue and the Allred families) but I don't know as of yet, which generation. That would have been scandalous then, as it was illegal for a Native American of a registered tribe to live in Georgia for many years after the "Trail of Tears". I think that those who were Indian, pretended to be white. There has got to be a good story here, wish I could find it!
I haven't found where the Patterson connection came in, I do remember seeing on some web site, several generations back, one of the Allred daughters married a Patterson.
This is so interesting, I never thought about the number of mules. I remember Paw Allred's barn and seeing the mules hitched up when the men were plowing. I can't remember how many, at the time there seemed like a lot. I loved the old home place, but the adults kept a tight rein on us, and I never got to explore the barns and stables. It was a large place back then, lots of barns and sheds, and (before my time) it even had its own commissary, where I assume he sold supplies to the people who worked for him.
The Holders, granny's family, did seem to be prominent in Rome, Ga. Her father was John Thomas Holder, his father Jesse S Holder. ( I hope I am getting these names right, don't have my book here at the moment)
I saw the same internet site you mentioned, where Sue, Bea & Agnes are listed. I also wondered why the others(Eula, Alpha, Marshall, Shelton and Daddy) were not shown.
I haven't worked much on the Allred line in the last few months, but I will get back to it soon. I am fascinated with the family history, so I want to find all there is to find. Do you spend much time researching the family?
I am surprised you like to garden, so do I. I get spring fever and have to dig in the dirt!
About the genealogy program, I probably wouldn't try to merge files, as the program I have has enough problems without my help. But we can share information, I can scan you copies of things, just let me know if you need what I have recorded,(the family and children with dates back to John James Allred). I can't take credit for all the work, a cousin sent a lot of it to me.
Take care and keep in touch. Phyl
