Medical marijuana research opportunity for cancer patients

MPP is sending this alert on behalf of Community Consortium/Positive Health Program of the UCSF medical service at San Francisco General Hospital

If you are a cancer patient being treated for cancer pain, you can receive $520 for participating in a medical marijuana study! Dr. Donald Abrams is conducting a study to assess whether using vaporized marijuana affects the safety of prescribed opioids in patients treated for cancer-related pain.
Patients eligible for the study must:<ul class=postlist><li> Have ongoing cancer pain</li>
<li> Be 18 or older</li>
<li> Be on a stable dose of oxycodone or morphine medication for at least two weeks before enrollment</li>
<li> Be willing to give up marijuana prior to entering the study</li>
<li> Not be a cigarette and/or cigar smoker</li></ul>Patients participating in the study will spend five days and nights in a clinical research center at San Francisco General Hospital and inhale vaporized medical marijuana three times a day. Doctors will also conduct blood tests and other measurements on participating patients.
